Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described the recent meeting in London between Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as a powerful symbol of political unity and a hopeful step toward the nation's future.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Fakhrul stated, “This meeting demonstrates that during times of national need, the people of Bangladesh—and their leaders—can come together. It shows a united front capable of guiding the country forward.”

The briefing was held to present the BNP’s initial reaction to the high-profile meeting, which has sparked widespread public interest. Fakhrul said he spoke directly with Tarique Rahman shortly after the meeting concluded. According to him, Tarique expressed deep gratitude and respect for those who have led and supported the movement over the past 15 years, especially those who sacrificed their lives or were part of the July-August mass uprising.

Fakhrul added that Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls. He also extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Bangladesh for their enduring commitment to the democratic cause.

Describing the meeting as both “timely and successful,” Fakhrul said it served to boost confidence in the political process. “On behalf of the party and our supporters, I extend sincere thanks to Tarique Rahman for his leadership. I also express deep appreciation to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus for his foresight and initiative in making this meeting happen,” he concluded.

Fakhrul noted that the political situation had grown uncertain in recent months, but the London meeting offered a renewed sense of direction. “These two leaders have inspired the nation once again to move forward with hope.”

He concluded by calling for continued unity and cooperation to overcome national challenges and ensure a democratic path ahead.
